Web Design Projects

During my early years at Country Maid, Inc. I had quite a bit of free time. Rather than use that time to surf the internet, email friends, or play computer solitarie, I bought some books and taught myself HTML, JavaScript, some tidbits of a half-dozen other computer languages and started building websites. All the websites listed here are only versions kept on my domain and are not neccesarily current versions. All graphics and animations are created by Chris Chase. All scripting is done in Microsoft Notepad... the right way.

Chase Original     This is my work site. Strangely enough, it's the worst of the lot, currently. It's really awful. I'm in the process of redesigning it, but since I never send anyone to my site, I never feel a need to update it. I'm more interested in updating my personal site more than this one. This site is the team of Ben and Chris Chase. Together there isn't much we can't do. From fixing your computer to drawing pretty pictures, we are capable of the whole spectrum. Back to Top

Indexable Tool Repair     This is a current site that I'm working on. The owner of ITR is pretty busy and has a hard time getting back to me. I'm not really a priority. I'm sure it will get finished someday. Back to Top

Tuesday Movie Night     This is just a personal website that my good friend Jim and I came up with. We update it regularly and I'm just really happy with how the design came out. Back to Top

The Employment Place     This site was almost a mistake. When I first took on the job, someone else had designed the site and all they had were pictures of what it used to look like. I was brought in to re-create the site because the other designer had pretty much taken his ball and gone home. After a while I understood why. First I re-created the site. Then I was told that it wasn't at all what they wanted and they wanted to re-design the whole thing. Then there were some problems with communication and some clashing of egos when I re-wrote some bad copy. It took almost a year to get this site up and running. In the end, I like to think that it was worth it. It's a pretty site. Back to Top

Gagne & O'Halloran     These people were great to work with. Very intelligent and knew exactly what they wanted. The site isn't all that pretty, but they wanted to keep it very simple, so I did. Most of the work came from re-typing copy for the website. Back to Top

AE Pro, current version     Eventually, Bill asked me to redesign his site to keep it current. I first came up with a really keen version that made everything look like a circut board... but he thought it looked too dark and in retrospect, he was right. Instead, I redesigned the site to be as simple as possible. No heavy graphics to tie up bandwidth when luddite clients visit the site. Just very clean and designed to match his current flier/handout. Random Maxx alternate page     As a little bit of fun, I hid this site in the Random Maxx site as an "Easter Egg." Since it would be really hard for anyone to find and I think it's important to see the difference in design, I'm making a straight link to it here. Back to Top

Random Maxx     If I thought any of the other sites were taxing, I didn't know what I was talking about. Random Maxx really put me through the ringer. I had 4 people that I had to please and they couldn't agree on anything between them. Not to mention, many of the people in this band I consider friends, so it wasn't like I could just up and leave the job. I finally came up with something that everyone seemed pleased with. Strangely enough, they had someone else re-design the site a few years later when one of their members left. Now it's a dark and brooding site with bad framing and too much java rather than the fun site they had before. Back to Top

Kohn Family Law     This website was kind of taxing. Valorie Kohn started out wanting "burgundy" in her website. First we couldn't agree on what that color was. Then there was a problem that she thought that the fades that I used with burgundy looked too pink and she didn't want to have anything that looked even remotely pink. Finally we scrapped all the designs and went with this version... all in blue. Back to Top

Napster is My Pimp!     This was for a company that wanted to promote Napster during their time of conflict with the band Metallica. I helped design the logo and had a friend of mine model for all the photos as well as design the website. Back to Top

Phelps Industrial Tooling Co.     Right next door to Automation Technology, was Phelps Industrial Tooling Co. Strangely enough, the owners of these two businesses were brothers, and they both asked me to build websites at the same time. I didn't like the Phelps design as much, but it all worked in the end. I've only been asked to update a couple of times in the six years that I've been maintaining their site. Hence the reason that the 2001 Expo banner is still up on the home page. Back to Top

Automation Technology     This was the first major frustration I had to deal with. Automation Technology called me in, I sat down had a nice meeting with them, and immediately went back and started working on their website. I came up with some fantastic graphics, in my opinion. Unfortunately, just as I finished it, I got a call from them that they had another web designer working on it and the only reason they called me in is that they hadn't heard from him in so long. Well, he showed up with a finished site. Hence, all my work was for naught. Still, I'm very proud of the animations that I came up with. Back to Top

Quality Customs Brokers     After I designed Bill's website, he started to offer me around to his clients. If they needed a website and didn't know where to go for one, he sent them to me. The first of these was Karin LaFreniere of Quality Customs Brokers. Karin has been great. She loves her site, comes back regularly for updates, and most importantly, pays on time! Her site has had more work than anyone elses, barring Country Maid's. Back to Top

AE Pro, old version     Country Maid's computer tech was Bill Arendt of Arendt Enterprises. Bill saw that I was creating websites and asked if I could do some work for him. I helped in the design of his logo and the creation of his website. This is the first version I came up with. Since it is no longer the current version, many of the links will be broken.Back to Top

Country Maid, Inc.     My next site was, of course, for Country Maid. I was quite ambitious in the beginning. Country Maid was capable of secure online ordering for each of their customers. Each product had it's own page with nutri-facts, ingredient statement, and photo of the product. There were some sections of the site that I envisioned that I just never had time to get around to creating, like the facility tour. This is the last version that I had up. The site is now being maintained by the current graphic artist. Back to Top

Video Gallery     The first website I ever designed was for Video Gallery of Lake Geneva. I had worked for Laura Thompson (the owner of Video Gallery) for many years and thought it would be nice if I made a website for her. I actually put in hundreds of hours on this site, but as I was still learning, much of it was unneccesary or done only as an exercise. Laura really didn't care, though, since I was doing it for free. I was in the middle of a full redesign when Laura decided to let her domain lapse, so it looks like an unfinished site. Since it's where my roots begin, I felt I needed to show it. Back to Top
