Sheryl asked me to draw her a picture. She had this wacky idea that she wanted to get a temporary tattoo on her belly now that she's pregnant. She wanted a picture of an alien baby ripping it's way out of her. So I drew this up for her. Here is a pre-colored image. Yeah, you ask me for something sick and disgusting like that and I'm more than happy to oblige. Seems to come naturally to me. I don't know where it comes from... I had such a happy upbringing.... so no, Mom, it's not your fault. Finished April 2006.

This big guy walked into SleeveMasters and got to talking to Lee. Lee convinced him that I was really good at drawing dragons. I had to bang this out while Sheryl was visiting Ella and I. I didn't even have time to finish the scales on the neck, but it served it's purpose. You can check out the tattoo here. Finished February 2006.

While I was working at SleeveMasters, I needed something cute to use as a personal identifier. I wanted to use this primarily for my tattoo care sheets, but figured I could use him on a number of other signs as well. I drew this original design and then vector drew and colored the image. This way the dragon can be changed to any color with a simple click. Finished October 2005.

After reworking the original idea for years, finally getting a permanent design (as seen on my homepage), and reworking a simpler, stamping design (as seen in the side navigation bar), I decided to make an artistic rendering of my crest. One that could facilitate more decorative uses. Something that could be hung on a wall or used as a tattoo. Finished February 2003.

This sketch was originally supposed to be a new logo for Grave Sights Hearse Club, but when they decided to go with a different design, I used it for the header on my 2002 Halloween invitations. This was produced as a tattoo design for a friend of mine. He just wanted a simple design incorporating 3 hearts

This picture was started back in 1995 but for some reason it was put off. When I finally finished it, I felt that
I couldn't finish it in the same manner that I began it. The end result is a collage of Jim that mimics our

The idea for this drawing came from a culmination of a poem I had written while I was having back problems and a sketch of a dragon that I had seen at Carthage College. I really liked how the wings of the dragon stretched into a shape that seemed seperate from the rest of the body, giving the impression of three foes instead of one. I tried to capture that same feeling with the demon foe in the drawing. It was a big departure from my normal style of drawing which would use real world anatomy to construct the wings. I had snapped a quick informal picture of Erika and I really liked the leisurely output. I had also been wanting to do a Negal-esque drawing for some time. This quote just seemed to go with Erika's personality when it came to men... I couldn't resist the odd combination. Finished August 1995.

This drawing was created in an effort to assure Erika Fountain that I was not a sleeze for
drawing her naked in the following two pictures. My intentions were only ever to have a slim female figure in
my pictures, never to embarrass her. Although she didn't say anything, after she saw
Madness I could tell that she had some doubts as to my intentions.

This piece was created on the off week I was doing a drug study in Madison. This is one of my favorite pieces because of the movement in the picture. Everything is spiraling towards the center giving it a feeling of falling into the madness that the quote is talking about.

This piece was also created while I was doing a drug study in Madison. I didn't have anything that I could think of
drawing so I started to sketch the church outside the window. I put the dragon in as a symbol of any sort of
hardship. People are always praying in church and in essence expecting their religion to save them. Religion
can't save you, only proactive steps in your own life can change anything. God himself may be able to save you,
but I prefer to think that he enjoys seeing how good we are at getting out of our own messes. These are the
thoughts I was trying to convey. Finished April 1995.

I came up with this in an effort to have a symbol or crest that I could call my own. You'll notice that the dragon
forms a yin yang on the interior of the circle. The circle itself has the 12 points and symbols of the zodiac.
The dragon is holding an ankh (the Egyptian symbol of life) in his left hand and his tail contains Om
(the Hindu holy word refering to Brahma, the Hindu god of creation). Finally, the entire drawing is underlined
by the symbol for infinity. You can see a finished version of this symbol on my homepage,
but this is the original hand-drawn version. Finished November 1994.

This is the last picture that I drew in my sketchbook. I knew I didn't have much room left and I wanted to go out with a bang. The drawing sort of took on a life of it's own. I started out drawing the green dragon, but he turned out so well, and so active looking, that I decided to have him battling another dragon. The angle that I had drawn his head at was an odd one, so it neccesitated a low-slung foe. One thing just kept leading to another, I then needed to have a reason for them to fight, hence the crystal heart. The little gnomes were just a last minute idea to bring a little comedy to the picture. The end result took up two pages of my sketchbook, hence the seam in the middle. 16x10 in.

This drawing was long after my class was over, while I was working as a security guard. I found that being a security guard gave me an unbelievable amount of free time to draw and write. This is one of my favorite sketchbook pictures because it is from when I was on top of my game with life-drawing. It was created after my class ended during the summer of 1992. This drawing was finished in about 5 minutes, completely in ballpoint pen. It is admittedly rough, but I consider it one of my best drawings because all the errors are still on the page, there was no erasing, and I believe it took the most skill.

This piece was one of a series that I drew for a friend of mine in college. We had been having lunch together and I told "Michelle" that I was in the art program. She requested that I draw some pictures of her and since I was in my Life Drawing class, I said sure, since it would be something that I would have to do anyway... it may as well be her. She showed up the following day with a series of nude photographs of herself that her boyfriend had taken (He was in the photography program) and wanted me to draw them for her. Who am I to say no to an offer like that? I'm especially proud of this piece because it's not that easy to watercolor on sketchbook paper.

This was the first dragon that I drew after high school. It was also one of my first drawings after I discovered Pigma pens. I still use Pigma pens, almost exclusively, when I'm doing ink work. In this section, when I refer to "ink" it's usually Pigma pens I'm refering to. All other felt-tips are refered to as such.
