Inked Comic Book Art

Welcome, true believers! This dimension is the hold where the madman keeps finished ink drawings, comic book pages, and other macabre images! He had the audacity to finish all these drawings with ink on bristol paper! His weapons of choice: Pigma fine tip pens, India ink, natural hair brushes, Sharpie brand permanent markers, and even the occasional toothbrush! This is not for the squeamish so cover your eyes if you're easily shocked. Here we go!

Random Maxx Funnies These cartoons were created as a fun little side for the Random Maxx website. Jim did the pencils and the funny and I cleaned it up, inked it, and set the type. Finished December 2002 - February 2003.

Kang This piece was produced for Tryke Kemnitz for the "Villian of the Month" promo for Comic Alley. Tryke offered me the dorkiest looking villian in the Marvel universe with this challenge, "If anyone can make Kang look good, you can." I picked up the gauntlet and this is the result. Finished February 2001.

Keegan Page 1 This is the first page of my graphic novel, which I lovingly titled "Keegan" (a working title) I started writing the story with Jim Schweitzer but after much disappointment with him and other writers/artists, I decided to go it alone. Look for it coming to comic stores everywhere just before I gasp my last breath! Finished December 2000.

Pumpkin Head This character was quickly thrown together for the Halloween Party invitations for 2000. He turned out good, but I could have done better. Finished September 2000.

Ernest A friend of mine had developed an off the wall character that intrigued me. This is my take on him, although the creator didn't think he was fat enough. I ended up using Ernest as eye-candy for my 1999 Halloween Party invitations. Finished December 1998.

Raphael I've always loved the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I've been drawing doodles of them since highschool. I finally took the time to create a good rendition of Raphael. Finished July 1998.

Fopdoodle I had developed a character based on a "slacker" superhero. I did a few pencils and then asked my good friend, Chris "Happy" Akright to finish the inks for me as a collaboration experiment. The results were quite impressive. Unfortunately, soon after the character was developed, the idea was exhausted by the major comic book companies. A day late and a dollar short, story of my life. Finished April 1997.

The Melvin: Page 1 This is another collaboration project with Happy. The drawing is page one for a spinoff of my Anathema storyline. I wasn't really planning on going anywhere with this, I just felt like drawing some hulking techno-junkies. Once again, my pencils and Happy's tracing. Finished March 1996.

The Foundation This was produced as an album cover design for a mix tape that I gave to my then-girlfriend/now ex-wife, Stefanie. My friend, Jim Schweitze,r posed for the demon shot and I was in the foreground, representing both halves of a fictional company called The Foundation! Finished May 1996.

James and the Damsel A buddy of mine had been bugging me to draw a picture to hang on the wall of his dorm room. His 21st birthday and Christmas fell around the same time, so I decided to make him a present. I had this drawing blown up to wall size! Unfortunately we have fallen out of touch. James Weyngard... where are you? Finished December 1995.

Anathema Page 1 I have developed a super group called Anathema. To avoid any copyright infringing, I will leave it at that. This is a preliminary page for the book. I also finished pages 2 and 3, but I don't consider them worthy to post. Even this page will eventually be replaced if I ever decide to finish the story, but I enjoy the look of this piece for now. Finished June 1995.

I am an Invisible Man I was perusing Bartlett's and I ran across this quote. I liked the quote and drew a picture around it as the theme. Only after I finished the drawing did I notice that the quote was taken from a comic book. Finished November 1994.
